By many, Valentine’s day is associated with lovers kissing and holding hands, couples on a date and other public expression of people’s feelings. What we think of when we hear ‘Valentine’s day’ are two people in love openly showing their emotions.
Nevertheless, the day is not only a holiday for those who are already in a relationship. The most beautiful part of the day is that it can be celebrated as well by those who are singles.
Being single is very much fashionable these days. To be honest, it seems that being a single is even more popular nowadays than being in a relationship. Today, people highly appreciate their own independence and freedom. They know that having a partner is often more problematic than being alone. And being alone definitely does not equal being lonely. These are two completely different concepts. Loneliness means problems with social relations, not having anyone to talk to, any friend. With single it is quite the opposite. Singles as so much independent and self-confident that they to not need to have a girlfriend or a boyfriend to have a good fun and still have great contacts with people. So, taking into consideration the fact that singles are very common in these days, we need to notice that Valentine’s day is also their day of celebration.
There are two kinds of singles: one of them are in love but somehow cannot be with the person they love and the other, do not even look for a boyfriend or a girlfriend as they feel much better being on their own. For the first group, Valentine’s day is particularly significant. The day 14 February gives them the opportunity to become more brave and confident and to take the first step. They can send a card, a box of chocolate or other typical gifts. This is who they can tell the other person about their feelings. Thus, not rarely it is the case that two people love each other but they are not together because they are afraid of being rejected. Valentine’s day gives a unique opportunity, only once during the whole year, to stop being single. It is up to you whether 14 February will change your life or not.
But remember, even if you are from the second group of singles, and you are not even looking for a partner, you can still celebrate the day with your beloved. Let the people you love know that you remember about them. Valentine’s day is indeed the day of LOVE.
